About Our School

Staff Information

Welcome to Twila Reid School!

We are all excited about the many things planned for the 2018-2019 school year! We have much to celebrate as we look forward to the coming school year! Educational excellence is our goal for each and every Twila Reid Ram; our exceptional staff works diligently to ensure success for all of our students.

Twila Reid School looks fantastic! Reid School was recently recognized with the Clean Campus Award for the Savanna School District and the entire campus looks great; we encourage you to attend one of our many school functions to be able to appreciate and enjoy the wonderful learning environment we have for our Twila Reid Rams!  Twila Reid School is also a very safe campus, with all gates secured throughout the day with the only point of entry being the School Office. There are more than 25 surveillance cameras located throughout the campus and parking lots to further ensure the safety of all on campus. Finally, all adults who pass through the office and wish to go on campus are screened against the registered sex offender databases in all fifty states. We are truly grateful for all of the residents of our community for continuing to value and support safety and education – thank you!

At Twila Reid School, we focus on teaching the Common Core State Standards. We use the Go Math curricula and the recently adopted Benchmark Advance English Language Arts curricula. In conjunction with Thinking Maps we provide additional writing instruction through the program called “Write from the Beginning.” One of our goals is to provide our students with the necessary skills to become proficient and successful writers.  At Twila Reid we are beginning our journey towards implementing the Next Generation Science Standards by increasing our focus on Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM). Students have access to a variety of science and technology tools both in our classrooms and in our STEM and Technology Learning Centers.

Our instructional strategies and practices are also aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Twila Reid staff members provide our students with a high caliber learning experience in a caring and nurturing environment so that students feel valued and respected. We desire that all of our students develop and maintain a love for learning! We are continuing our “Reading Round Up,” our leveled reading instruction, in order to match instruction to the range of diversity among our students. Intensive reading interventions are a key component of this program.  Mastering academic vocabulary, becoming a fluent reader with analytical thinking skills, and learning to communicate through writing are critical to a student’s continued success in their educational journey!  These skills will be stressed in all classrooms and at all grade levels as we continue to equip our students to build for their future success.

As our students’ academic success starts in Kindergarten, we will continue our very successful full day Transitional Kindergarten program this year as well as our full day academic Kindergarten program. Transitional Kindergarten is designed to offer students a developmentally enriched educational experience by implementing the kindergarten curriculum over a two-year period. The Transitional Kindergarten experience results in a seamless transition to the more rigorous academic Kindergarten.

Twila Reid School is a community of caring people whose goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment where students feel included, respected and valued. At Twila Reid School we take bullying very seriously. Our dedicated staff is committed to upholding high expectations by being proactive in addressing student needs and concerns. Twila Reid School has adopted the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) approach to student discipline. Our primary goal is to reinforce positive behavior and prevent discipline problems. To do this we teach, model and expect students to R. O. C. K., and display the following traits: Respectful, Own your actions, Cooperative, and Kind. We expect students to follow the established procedures for the classroom, walkways, restrooms, MPR, lunch area, and playground. When students fail to follow the expected procedure, we have them repeat the procedure correctly.

We believe quality education can be achieved through high expectations of student performance and behavior, strong family/school/community partnerships, and a dedicated enthusiastic staff committed to providing the best education possible for the students at Twila Reid School.

We are very excited to once again partner with the Tiger Woods Learning Center in Anaheim where students will be provided with real-world, hands-on experiences as they see science come to life before their eyes!

Our Twila Reid Rams will be climbing to success this year!
